program developed by and presented by April Turner
Overview. Four great books. One book highlights the story of an African school-aged child. Another focuses on an Native American child. The third a European child. The fourth, a child from Latin America.
Each participating fifth grade class has two months to read a book. At the end of two months (October, December, February, May), April Turner will visit each school to conduct a one day workshop to discuss the book, as well as, emphasize positive themes with dramatizations and other arts exercises.
Each book has a companion workshop. Students who complete all four books get certificates. Schools that have A+ participation among their fifth graders (95%) get a blue ribbon.
